EXTRAS:
If your grade is a “C” or below, you are required to study, in a group or with a tutor, in the Art Rainingbird Learning Center for at least one hour per week. Each week Faculty will give a list of students, whose grade is a “C” or below which shows a need for required study, to the Learning Center director and she will mark off who participates and turn it back to the faculty member on Friday. It is up to you (the student) to make contact with the Learning Center director and to meet with a tutor or study group. This procedure is not to punish the student but to help them succeed in completing a college degree. It has been recommended by the SCC Retention Committee in an effort to develop scholarly habits in all of our students. Not attending required study groups may affect your final grade.
This course may have more new content and vocabulary than you are use to learning in a week so a study guide or vocabulary assignment will be required for each chapter. The purpose of this requirement is to have you prepared to discuss the topic of the week. It is imperative it is done before class, not made up at a later time. I will adhere to due dates and time.
This course moves through the material quickly, so please stay current in quizzes and attend regularly. Midterm and final exams will be questions from previous quizzes, so be sure to correct any questions that you might miss.
UPDATE 4/28/14 Requirements were changed due to poor attendance and the impact that this would have on students grades.
Policy before 4/28/14
*Points are earned daily by showing respect for the class by being punctual, being prepared and participating during the full class (not interrupting with cell phone calls, people at the door, etc., or roaming in and out of class). 5 points are available per day, per instructor discretion. They cannot be made up, but must be earned by your participation in the class at that time. This requirement has been put into place to build professional skills and increase learning in the classroom.
All quizzes must be taken on day assigned unless prior arrangements have been made. 4 pts. will be deducted if quiz is not taken before the next class period. The final exam will be taken on due date and 10 points will be deducted per day it is late. If you have an extreme case, please meet with the instructor ASAP.
